Giant propel advanced 1 reviews - responses to the issues
Is the giant propel any good?
The Propel excels in fast rolling terrain. Any opportunity to ride for extended periods of time over 30kph and this bike is really quite impressive. However, if you are riding somewhere where it is incredibly hilly and average speeds are closer to 20kph then I would advise going for the TCR and the Defy.
Hey guys, this is Peter from Bikes and Life who is here today to review a bike of my own. This is actually a 2013 Giant Propel Advanced SL 1. The reason I'm reviewing a 2013 bike is because this truly represents a moment of innovation in cycling, the culmination of a two year project.
The giant has set out to develop the fastest and stiffest aero racing bike of all time. Developing the drive frame was actually the toughest project the giant has ever started. After 88 frame revisions and two years of refinement of this design by design Windkanal is testing the development of new ways of simulated human body movement while driving.
Giant launched a bike that ran consistently for two years and, like radars, won the competition for the best aero road bike. The giant was actually in a unique position to accomplish this goal as not only does it make its brand of bicycles, but is actually the world's largest manufacturer of bicycles. This gives them control and insight from the design process to the actual materials they use in the bike.
One of the biggest selling points for powering frames and all of the giants' advanced SL frames is the use of their own blend of proprietary in-house carbon fiber. This allows you to set exactly the type of composite properties of materials that you want before the right material goes into production. From the first moment I stepped on the giant drivetrain, I was just blown away with the performance, part of the reason the drivetrain feels so good when driving, based on the huge TCR road geometry which is a totally compact road, and once you've seen our TCR check out actually check out here.
You'll see the TCR stiffen the frame to increase performance while maintaining a sense of comfort and increasing the power you get out of the pedals through a frame that only makes the most of your pedaling power. The drive is like that designed to be awesome as a wind cheater. It's a damn good climber too if you stop on the pedals.
Probably the most visually striking thing about this bike is that the seat post is part of the frame, so by pulling the saddle tube straight into that integrated seat post - ISP you have reduced the weight by preventing you from having two different tubes in there, and they have increased the ability to add vertical compliance in this part of the frame as the whole frame can now bend with no carbon the tubes nested and resist movement so it is lighter, it is more resilient and looks amazing too. One subtle detail that you can see up close are these mini V-breaks that are integrated and hidden behind the frame to allow the undersupplied airflow to come over them and reduce the aerodynamic drag you have while riding I wonder again, why you show me a 2013 bike, it's 2016, let's move with the times, the truth is the huge frame hasn't changed too much since 2013. In fact, this bike is very similar except for a few subtle differences at first, the price dropped significantly when it sold at 7,500 in 2013.
Now the bike is 6900, but probably the biggest difference is the huge SLR 0 wheelset, a full carbon clincher tire that is tubeless compatible. It's a $ 2,200 retail wheelset despite the drop in price, Giant's homemade wheelset not only improves your handling and aerodynamics, but also transfers power from your legs to the road more effectively. The giant drive is available in a variety of different models from 2100 to 10,000.
We have these bikes in our stores. You can come over and test ride the bike. Once you are ready, our fit technicians can provide you with a fit to ensure that you are perfectly matched to the bike and the bike is perfectly tailored for you for the best possible experience of comfort and performance.
