Benji Jones: This bike costs $ 2,000 and is taking the cycling world by storm. It is sold by the Peloton company, which supposedly has more customers than even the spin giant SoulCycle. But what really sets it apart is the convenience of the bike, you can take a spinning class from anywhere and, according to the company, get a studio-quality workout.

That sounds pretty good now, but is it really worth the hype? To find out, I got a peloton bike for a spin, I did a 45-minute peloton class every day for two weeks. And how did it go? Well, let's just say, I'll probably never be this fit again First things first: To find out how good it is for a workout that I would get, I visited the sports trainer Sean Kuechenmeister before my first class. Sean: You will hopefully determine your basic fitness specifically for cycling.

Benji: Sean is working on the New York Sports Science Lab in Staten Island, and that's where he assesses the physical performance of professional athletes. And now me, your average fitness visitor. Okay, fine.

We started by taking some basic metrics like weight and body fat. Next up was some not-so-basic measurements; I feel like I'm doing it, like an ejector seat. It's an isokinetic limb machine.

It measures the strength of my quads. Then we tested the leg strength, Sean: Jump. Benji: Mobility, and something called a muscle drive.

Sean: So would drive how much electrical current you get from the brain through these nerves. The muscles are really like senseless flesh. The nerves determine how efficiently the muscles move. - But the hardest test of all? A measure of what is called VO2 max.

Sean: The reason the VO2 max is so relevant to bikers is a measure of how well your body uses the oxygen you take in when you breathe. The better you use the oxygen, the more it will be transported throughout your body and the more efficiently you will be able to move and perform whatever exercise you do. Benji: I did below average in VO2 max in the 47th percentile, which was a shame.

But overall I was in pretty good shape and with the rating behind me, it was time to drive. Fortunately without a gas mask this time. The start was pretty bumpy because I didn't really get on the bike at the beginning.

I just didn't feel the music, just like oldies or, like, rock, I'm not about to ride my bike out to rock, I ended up going to a recorded class and I thought I'd be really good at that Cut off class and then I looked and saw that I was in 589th place, I think. To my credit, there were about 2,500 people in that class, which made me feel pretty average, which is perfectly fine. My quads are already starting to feel it.

I can definitely feel a burn today, look at this. 2,136th place out of 10,000. I mean, not terrible! I was tired almost from the start, but the days went by quickly and pretty soon I was a Wir ek in.

I proud to say i did it seven days in a row! but i haven't seen that much progress, instead i was actually in pain, i'm definitely starting to feel a little bit of pain in my right side you know, to be honest all my stats look the same today as they did on my first ride. I burned just over 500 calories per class no matter how exhausted I felt at the finish line, but I wasn't going to stop, especially since Sean predicted some pretty stark results to look forward to. Sean: I think if you lose fat and then you potentially burn yourself into some muscle, maybe we'll see you go from 143 to about 141, 140, um, but I expect your stamina to go up, and I expect that this number goes from fair to good with your VO2 max.

Benji: I increased it for my eighth trip. Instead of driving home, went to the Peloton studio in Manhattan where the class is being filmed. I was curious to see if I was in front of a teacher and in the presence of what It seems to be one of the fittest and most attractive in New York City.

It was a good time. It's the day before Valentine's Day so there were a lot of breakup songs which was great. But as it turned out, all bikes are calibrated differently, so my display on my bike in the studio was very different than on the bike I have at home.

There was probably a 200 calorie difference. So I tried harder in the studio. My average heart rate was 10% higher than at home, but the meter on my studio bike showed my performance and calorie count were my lowest ever.

So fair warning, the calorie counter could be different if you don't ride the same bike every time by the middle of the second week my performance finally started to improve. I feel pretty good Losing body fat, feeling like my legs are probably a thousand times stronger. Hopefully that's the case.

I also broke 600 calories in one ride today which means I'll get better on my journey to strength on the bike. Whats it, Journey to Strength? Side note: if I should be criticizing Peloton towards the end, it's not the quality of the training

Teacher: When you think of something in the form of energy Benji: It's the language the teachers use to motivate. It may be a personal thing, but it just feels so inauthentic. This is a practice lesson, no therapy anyway. a few days later came the moment i was waiting for the end! woo! 14 classes! yeah, it feels really good to be done probably because i achieved my goal, partly because I'm so excited not to feel so exhausted and not ride my bike every day to do a lot every day.

Let's see, 14 workouts, 10 1/2 hours, 194 miles, 7,745 calories, that was the best performance I've ever achieved. I also broke 600 calories in one ride today which means I'm better, and you can see I started off pretty strong and then dived a bit and then started working again the next day, I returned for mine Follow-up examination back to the laboratory. Sean: Your initial measurement was 143.5.

You're 142 today along with that point zero, but your lean mass, that's your muscles, your bones, you know, the connected tissue was 125.2 the first time. The second time it's 125.4 so all you have lost is fat.

You got your muscles. In fact, you gained 0.2 pounds of muscle mass during all that time - Interestingly, all of the new muscle I gained ended up in only one place: my left leg.

Do you remember the pain in my right knee that I spoke of? adjusted by relying more on my left side when pedaling, which results in me building muscles there. I've actually lost muscle weight all over my body. Sean: You took off the torso.

You lost weight on your left arm and you lost weight on your right arm. Benji: And that's because I only did one type of activity a day, but the biggest change was in my VO2 max. Trainer: So that was it his initial, and this is his new one, where he now only ranks 79%.

Cinematographer: That's unbelievable! Dean: 47 to 79. Benji: So I'm better than most people? Sean: Yes. You're worse than most people got a lot better than most people.

Benji: Wow. That's amazing wow! OK, so more muscles in my left leg, less everywhere, and a lot more endurance. What about the force? Sean: You have actually lost strength in terms of your stamina in terms of aerobic capacity, but in terms of anaerobic capacity, our body's system that uses more sugar is using glycogen, which we use to build strength and strength to produce, you have actually decreased.

Benji: And in terms of trying to understand those numbers for two weeks, is that a pretty big change? Sean: Oh yeah, definitely. I think most doctors recommend that roughly a pound per pound and a quarter of fat per month is a healthy rate for losing fat, so you're actually way ahead, so I think if you continued like this you probably would - you would lose more fat if you could build a little more muscle, but at some point there would be a point where the return falls, where we have to change something in the routine. Benji: Roger, OK.

Sean: That was good for a two week challenge, but I think it's not very sustainable in the long run. Benji: OK, and that's a good thing because the thought of cycling is already pretty terrible. Oh, if I ever go again need to lose weight and run into a mountain of cash, I'm confident that two weeks of intense cycling like this will be enough.

Is peloton in financial trouble?

This latest catastrophe is on top of the risk Peloton faces from the reopening of gyms across the U.S. Still up more than 3x over the past year, Peloton's ~5x forward revenue multiple is still rich for a stock with ~40% gross margins.

Hey what's up K-Stars, it's your girl Kristyn Alexis and in today's article we're going to be talking about the Peloton bike. I did a review when I first got the bike. I think it might have been like my first week or two and I wanted to do a follow up to basically talk a little more about the cost of Peloton and is Peloton really worth the money? If you joined the facebook group I recommended the group is insane.

People in the group are passionate about this bike and when you meet most of the people who have it they are either super passionate or totally against it and try to get rid of their bike using myPerspective, see if Peloton is worth the money is. If you've looked up or researched the bike, you probably know that the bike costs roughly two thousand dollars plus two hundred and fifty dollars shipping, which is like their White Glove shipping service. The service is really stupid.

For me, I could get my bike in less than a week. So it worked out pretty well. So I came up with 10 points that I will share with you today about the motorcycle and whether it is worth the money.

And I think this will be helpful when you consider whether you want to spend two thousand dollars on this bike. The first point I have and the reason why it was definitely worth it for me is the liveClasses. That was a big selling point for me as I've had a Planet Fitness membership for three or four years - probably since I met Brian and I still don't have to cancel.

However, I've literally ridden less this year than I've ridden my Peloton bike since I got it, and I've had the Peloton bike cheaper for a little while. I think it was two days over a month. So to be honest, the live classes are a big selling point for me.

I need something that will motivate me to get on the bike, will motivate me to use it. I'm a very busy person so it's difficult for me to motivate myself, for me it was a big selling point and, in my opinion, the main reason the class sold me off. Another great benefit that I really love about this bike is that it gives you a historical record of how you performed in class.

What I mean by that is that, at essentially all different points, you learn how well they track you done. What was your cadence? What was your performance? They have your heart rate every single point they've been able to track in the past and you can compare from one workout to the next. And that helps me a lot because when it comes to myself I like to look at calories and always try to improve my calorie consumption so that I can do better next time and just keep pushing myself.

I always try to be a lot of calories because for me when I think of calories I think of fat loss and I think of you too. Less pressure on my diet and while I am trying to eat healthier food the peloton has definitely helped me a lot from exercising for some reason like Mental, it makes me eat better and when I'm not exercising I feel like that I don't care so this is like a sidebar, but I definitely feel like the historical aspect of the peloton and what it records you from your lessons in your workouts. Really motivates me because I'm always trying to hit myself.

The third selling point of this bike is the instructors. If you get a peloton or join the Facebook group - and I'll link this Facebook group in the description box so you can check it out for yourself. But what you will notice is that people are passionate about these instructors.

For example, if you come for one of the teachers, they will come for you. Just like people love their teachers. There are a couple of them that are really very popular on the app or in this program.

And you know the program and the instructors really help you keep yourself motivated and I feel like you are building a sense of connection and community with them. Much like when you follow your favorite Youtuber, and I think that also helps people really get involved on the bike and across the platform as a whole. So the instructors are also a big selling point in my opinion.

And what makes Peloton so unique than just getting your own bike and doing it on your own. I definitely think like some of these instructors. I love taking their courses and if I didn't have that.

And if I had a bike without this part, I definitely wouldn't be inspired to step on this bike. I think the fourth argument that is definitely a selling point for the peloton is how competitive it is with other people. So we talked about competing with ourselves but also competing with other people and I was able to connect with people who are following me now and I followed me and it's dope because we can take classes and see whether it is us in the courses when we take them, as well as other people who attend them.

If you take a course with you, you can see yourself on the so-called leaderboard. re doing this time which is kind of cool. You can hide this if you want, but it's a really nice thing for me and you can see where you have ranked in the past on this leaderboard not only can you see your past performance but also see when People walk by you and when you am passing by.

The bad part is you can actually high five people to inspire them, or I like to get people high five while handing them over to basically give them a little inspiration to try to catch up. Well I'm not really high on the leaderboard so I should really relax with all of this, but I think it's kind of fun and it just adds to the competitiveness which inspires me to ride the bike even more. Number five on this list is the music to top it off depending on the type of music you like, and there are some who really pick music and songs that appeal to me and others that aren't necessarily.

It's not about the music, but I love the music and that's something they sure figured out and understand that music is something that people really get into. So the music is like a huge plus in my opinion and definitely a selling point - that you wouldn't even think of, but you picked great music and the music helps me get me on the beat. And it's almost like dancing.

As if you can go out and dance and you forget that you really like to exercise, you dance hard because the music is so great. And the same is with the peloton riding on beat and it just helps you push yourself even further. Especially when I want to give up.

I want to knock. My legs are on fire. But the music is playing hard and will only help your girl push herself even further.

Number six on the list is the milestone. So Peloton does a really good job of giving you milestones. When you have completed certain aspects of cycling.

For example you get milestones on certain types of courses like they had turkey day everyone rode on Thanksgiving and I think that course had 11,000 or more people which is crazy. They also indicate milestones for several weeks in a row, several days in a row. You have what is called the Journey of the Century.

You have like a 200, 500, and what will often happen is when you make your milestone drives. The instructors will call you out while you're in class, which is dope. It doesn't happen to everyone but it happens a lot and it's one thing that really inspires people and it's fun because in this group I'm going to see people post complain that they didn't get their shout-out and Peloton grows.

There are a lot of people who ride in these classes who get shout-outs, and there are probably too many to shout-out everyone, because then the whole class would literally be shout-outs, but it's easy dope to see them do this and it is something that happens for people who ride the peloton during class. Number 7 on the list is that you can finance the bike, although the price is a steep one. And I think the funding is somewhere between $ 59 and $ 60.

I actually took on the financing, but I paid off mine early. But it was a really nice thing because funding is really easy. It's really convenient.

You can actually download the app to your phone. And they go through a company called Ally. I think it's Ally, and I found it very convenient.

I loved it and there was no penalty for paying upfront payments by just paying over and over and then finally just prepaying the whole thing. So it worked for me. But the funding is convenient and it's similar to having a Y membership.

The Y membership here is $ 75, and to get the funding I probably did the $ 63 because I got all of the accessories. Your girl had to have it all, so it was about $ 60 for me and it worked out really well. Very convenient and I didn't have to have as much money as I did that day.

I could just do it when I was comfortable. Number 8 on the list is that this motorcycle is challenging. I didn't get that high rankings in any of the classes I've done.

I just feel good I feel good that I'm doing more than I've done before. I'm pretty much starting from scratch and it just feels good to push myself and actually be active. Because like I told you I was working on trying to get my HDL back where it needs to be.

backbeat fit swimming

This really helps me and it makes me feel good about doing something that is good for me and my body, but it's very very demanding and just helps me push myself until I want to be the best Kristyn that i can be. The ninth thing on the list is the sense of community. Now the only one thing about the peloton you will hear a lot if you do your research, you read some articles, you often speak of the peloton community as a sect, and it's funny because I wouldn't go as far as I can tell it's a real cult.

But I'll definitely say that people who own a peloton are passionate about their bike and that's an understatement on you. Be careful if you go in there and smash the bike or do something like that because people who ride pelotons are passionate, passionate, passionate, passionate about the bike. But it's really cool because there is a sense of community.

You often see people post in the groups about things that happened to them or huge milestones they went through on a bike. Losing weight and the like, and the feeling of community is just really very exciting and it just helps to inspire you even more to want to ride a bike and be the best that you can be. And the tenth thing on the list for me is that it's just plain fun, honestly it was a really fun adult purchase.

As you get older, you like to think of all the things you wanted as a kid, and for me that's one of the things that kind of brings that excitement back because the peloton bike is literally just plain fun. How I just love it. The lessons are fun.

The competitive feeling I even have with my fiancé is fun because he shares his experience and I mean with him even though we drive at different times - make our schedules. So overall I am only describing this bike as having a lot of fun. It's funny that I did the first article and people came and came for me like your output wasn't even that high or you didn't do a lot on your ride and I think that's great for me.

As I don't know, I just feel good pushing myself and doing every single ride better than the last ride. And I just feel so good. So never feel like you have to go up against anyone or so you know too much, like you start where you are and you pick a target and you can just stick with it and move on.

And if you go on and go on and go on, you will see improvements. You will feel better. Making these stairs at work will be a lot easier for me than it used to be.

I am actually starting to see changes in my legs which is what I love. I feel like I don't particularly like my thighs - so that's the part that burns a lot when I do the rides and it feels so good especially when you're sore the next day and you think wow, i really push myself. In my opinion, Peloton is well worth the money.

It's a significant investment. Don't get me wrong, but for what I've spent at Planet Fitness over the past few years, I would surely have traded that money first and spent on my peloton and paid that thing off instead of investing in that Planet Fitness membership and I have feel like I'm getting my money's worth and will definitely benefit from it, but I wanted to do this article because I know this is what matters most when you are thinking about whether you want to make that investment and I have that Feeling that of all the things you can buy, this is the only thing that you are investing in yourself. If you are new to my channel and don't know me, I really go out of my way to answer questions.

So by all means let me know all of the questions in the description box. If you'd like to connect with me on Peloton, my name is Kristyn Alexis there just like here on YouTube. So go ahead and add me there.

And really quick, I just want to ditch this, if you want to try the app on another bike you can. They have a free trial that I actually did first. I didn't even have a bike, but I did the free trial and just watched the people go to the classes and that just took me to my heart.

As if I shouldn't have because I was so excited and wanted this bike. So bad after that, but that's another thing you can do is take the free trial - it's like a week or so and it's just kind of familiarizing you with what it will be like when you're using that yourself Ride a bike. I just want to ditch this in case you're on the fence and just want to get a feel for it.

You can do that. And I know that there are people out there who really just do subscriptions like this. And I think it's nineteen dollars and they don't even have the bike.

They literally just do it. There's the guy who's on the Facebook group who has a treadmill that is a treadmill and he runs his treadmill with the app from his phone, he just projects onto his TV. Here's a great way to get it working for yourself if you don't want to invest in the bike right away and want to take two courses.

And I wanted to forget that it was out there because for those of you who are trying somehow, thinking about whether you want to? That is something that can help you. They know you can work your way into it and see if you want to. And some really quick questions and answers before we get out of here.

When you get the bike, the subscription for the monthly fee for the live classes is separate. I think that's $ 39. So that's in addition to the bike that's just one thing that you definitely need to consider.

The other thing, like I just said, you don't have to have the bike to do the subscriptions, you can use an iPad, you can use your phone. You can project onto your TV. There are many different ways you can do this without investing in the bike if you don't want to.

But the bike is connected to all the things that you will pursue. And for me it was a big advantage because I can see my story. I can control this - and I don't even know how you are right now calling it out on top of my head, but you can turn the little knob and it gets harder, almost like a hill and it connects to the bike so that the bike can see clearly can where you are.

So for me this has been a big win-win and I think another thing that you can just throw away is get the warranty because if you need to have service on your bike it will be more than that the guarantee was. I didn't get the guarantee at first, but I'm in the process of adding it and I've spoken about this to a lot of people in the group. So I just want to ditch this in case you try to decide if you want to do it yourself.

So I talked quickly. I wanted to have everything in this article without making it too long, but I'll go ahead and get out of here. I hope the article was useful.

As I mentioned before, if you have any questions let me know in the comments section. And if you're a newbie on my channel, by all means subscribe because I'll be sure to keep you updated on the bike and my progress here in the near future. I love you as always.

I wish you a nice rest of the day and see you in my next upload. Bye.

Is buying a peloton worth it?

The bottom line is that if you are going to faithfully use a Peloton bike, it might be worth the cost. First, the monthly subscription gives you unlimited streaming access to all of Peloton's workouts. You could do two-a-days if your schedule allowed, there is really no limit.5 2021 .

Is peloton coming out with a cheaper bike?

Peloton announces more expensive bike, cheaper treadmill; shares surge. The company's new Bike+ will cost ,495 and will be available Wednesday. The original Peloton bike's price will drop to ,895 from ,245. 'We feel like we're just getting started,' Peloton CEO John Foley said.

Three, two. (House Music) - I have to make a confession. Running was never really my thing.

I never got the so called runner's high because I usually do it when I run, two minutes before I have to. So, there comes the peloton, the fitness mania that has a huge community about their stationary bike. The company shipped its second piece of equipment, a treadmill, earlier this year, and I thought if a bike could get so many people excited about spinning, maybe it could teach me how to run.

And that's why I've put the Peloton Tread and myself to the test over the past two months by signing up for my first 5km. So I just woke up in mid-February and I want you to meet my new roommate. So here's the thing: the only place I could put the Peloton Tread was in my bedroom, and while that was really uncomfortable, I wanted it to encourage me to use it as much as possible.

Also, I was pretty emotionally invested in this 5K because we're raising money for research into pancreatic cancer, which is something that is very important personally to a two-time survivor. The plan is to exercise three to four times a week for two months and we'll see how I feel. (Joy music) If you haven't heard of the Peloton Tread, this is how it works.

The device offers a variety of courses, such as mountain training, walking / running combinations, and even physical training such as arm and leg exercises and yoga. There are even programs for 5K training or you can stream to a class that is currently being taught live from a studio in New York. The treadmill has a 32-inch touchscreen, a soundbar on the bottom, and buttons on the side that allow you to control the speed and incline.

There's a button to jump to the next level and another to stop the tread, the tread has lamellar belts with a sturdy texture for smoother landings. Since I'm not really running now, I can't really compare it to other treadmills, but I have to say I didn't really have knee pain on the Peloton Tread that I've done from other classes I've taken in the past. Now it's a beauty full piece of hardware, and it's better for $ 4,500.

But where the peloton shines is its programming. There is a wide variety of courses, teacher personalities, and music genres to suit your mood. And because Peloton teaches a new class almost every day, there is always something new to try out.

There are a few other gamification tools too, such as: B. Achievement badges or challenges that you can complete each month. On your profile page you can see statistics such as: For example, what is your fastest run in the past 30 days, or the instructor whose class you attended the most? I found this very helpful for tracking progress over time because it was so encouraging to see those numbers go up and all the miles I have run that I really wanted to keep going (House Music) Hey, so it's been a little over a week since I got this, I've had Runseven Runs for the past nine days, a lot more than - basically more than I've done all of last year I think .

I really couldn't run more than two miles every 30 minutes, which I think is a good place to start. The fact that I can just roll out of bed, put my shoes on, and just start in my PJs when I wanted to actually helps a lot. I usually start with a 10 minute warm up walk and then a 30 minute beginner or middle class class.

It's actually funny how well the gamification features worked. For example, I was two miles away from a gold badge in late March and added a power walk session at the end just to get the badge. Surprisingly, it was kind of hard to get into a live class.

Either they were super early in the morning or sometimes that I wasn't quite home from work. And when I was, it was like bodyweight training, that wasn't really what I was looking for. I wish there were more live running classes because it would have been really nice to see the leaderboards jumping around.

After all, Peloton is about the community and I would really love to see this in action. (rhythmic house music) Update time, I look pretty gross now, but I'm really excited because I have to show you everything. I started at about two miles every 30 minutes, and today is my first time crossing the 2.5.

In fact, I got to 2.62, which is something like this: wild, which is way more than I thought I could do, especially since I hate running again. Yeah, I don't know if I'll be doing the peloton credit That would discredit myself for having worked really hard, but I'm a little nervous about running outside.

But so far so good, I'm really excited. I will probably check back soon. The first month with Peloton is like the week following a New Year's resolution.

I was consistent, I was motivated, I saw progress very quickly. Then I lost my routine. (quiet house music) I've just finished my run of the day.

I have to admit, I haven't been very good at holding my runs for the past week, as you can see, this has been all of the last few months since I started on Feb 19th, and I've skipped many days over the past week . It was just a little busy. My bad.

But the good thing is, it seems like I'm still getting faster with every run. My pace is still pretty slow, but I think if you compare it to the very first time I trained, I've increased a lot. Anyway, I now have about two or three weeks to my 5km which is nerve wracking.

Right now the pace is good, I think I just have to keep trying to keep that pace on my own as the treadmill will keep the pace for you. So now that the weather is going to be fine in New York, I'll run outside and see how I am. In the last few weeks before my race, I actually trained outside and had to do with the peloton.

But before the race, I was still pretty scared. (happy electronic music) 7:00 am, we really have to get out before we're late. Very nervous, didn't get any sleep.

But that's okay, let's do it. - I think you can do it. - Thanks mom.

I think I'm about a mile and a half, two. What do you think, Rick? - Oh, a mile and - - change? - Change - Yes. - mile and a third. - Feel good, feel good, let's do this. - Turn right. - Yes, finish strong. (Crowd cheers) - Okay, I finished at 32, which is crazy.

I don't know how after the second mile I was very breathless and tired, but then I think I saw people approaching the goal and everyone felt so energetic. And there was a sea of purple shirts that felt easy, just keep going, and I did it. It's a good day, so it went from bed to 5K, and by now you probably want to know if the Peloton Tread is There were definitely a couple of things I didn't like about the machine, such as the way the screen shakes a little when I run and the occasional software lag that affects the stream quality of the peloton are the courses, and I found this to be the most helpful aspect of encouraging myself to exercise every week.

I really am fun to follow the instructors and how they led the course through the course with small talks about current events like International Women's Day or even jokes about the New York weather $ 20 a month which is worth a lot more if you already have a treadmill or gym membership, or plan to run outside. So in the end, even though I never quite found runner's high, I'm really grateful to be able to say that I can now do 5k. The experience gave me a lot of confidence to drive another race.

And while having the Peloton Tread in my bedroom was really ridiculous, we've been through a lot together and I think I'll actually miss it. Thanks a lot for looking. It means a lot to me to be able to share this journey with you and I would like to know what kind of technique you used to achieve something that you never thought you could do? Let me know! the comments.

Can peloton instructors see you?
