Bike reflectors - how to handle

Does a bike need reflectors?

When you ride a bicycle in the dark, the law requires that you have lights and reflectors; and the law is quite specific as to what lights and what reflectors you use. Lights and reflectors are required on a pedal cycle only between sunset and sunrise.25 окт. 2018 г.

There are more than a few ways your bike can literally wear you down on the climbs. In this article we're going to introduce you to a few of the obvious, some of the less obvious, and some of the slightly more expensive ways you bike can be made a bit easier. (Joy Music) Let's start today by shaving some weight for when something is free, it's always better, right? Two 750-mil bottles weigh about one and a half pounds.

If you include the weight of the bottle it will be a little more. I'll only drive for an hour so I know I don't have to drink 1-1 / 2 liters of fluids, that would be enough for about three hours. It takes me about 500 mils for an hour, which would save me a whole kilo.

cycling pain

That doesn't sound like a lot now, but considering I'm going to drive a pretty hilly hour, about 400 to 500 meters in altitude, that could save up to a minute. And while a minute over an hour doesn't sound like much, imagine if it were? a steady increase of only 30 minutes. That one minute will feel like forever with Hank waiting for me upstairs.

By now moving away from the center of the bike and to where my saddlebag should be. Unfortunately, Hank borrowed her for another bike packing tour he does a lot these days and is good to him. He's enjoying it.

Now imagine the contents of your saddlebag. What would you have in there? A hose, a multitool a Maybe you've got some breakdown patches, a couple of gas cans, that sort of thing. Is all of this really necessary for a one hour drive? Imagine having one of those great multitools with a chain breaker when was the last time you used a chain breaker on a bike ride? Could you maybe get away with a much smaller multitool like this one? And then when you get on your tubes, maybe you could use one of those ultra-light, tiny emergency tubes you see on the internet these days? I think you could probably get it around 300 grams on your own, and that type of weight on your bike is really going to make a difference, especially if you do quite a bit of climbing.

While we're talking about saddlebags, how about the part of the bike that comes off? are they suspended, the saddle? are you guilty of doing something I've been doing for years, which is use the heavily padded version of the same saddle I currently use on my bike? it doesn't save me much weight between those two saddles but if you go from a saddle that is wildly padded compared to a lightweight racing carbon saddle, you can save up to 200 grams side by side climbing the saddle, which costs you a lot of energy that is otherwise used to do so could propel the bike forward uphill. When choosing the saddle, it's actually the shape of the saddle and the design, not the design, the amount of paddin that determines how comfortable it is for you. And you should always try to find a saddle that fits your body and takes care of you One of the most overlooked ways to save some weight on your bike is to change your tires.

Chances are that when you bought your bike it was priced at a certain price, which means the tires likely didn't have priority. Something like the wheelset or the groupset was probably I'm not saying you should throw away your tires right away. This is completely wasteful, but when they're worn out it's the perfect opportunity to upgrade to something lighter.

Perhaps you can switch from a steel bead to a folding bead, saving a little weight, or you can just switch to a slightly more expensive version of the tire you already have. It will do more to make your bike feel quick and bubbly on the climb or on the flat than almost any other change you can make in that kind of price, so if you're upgrading your tires this is the perfect opportunity too to upgrade your hoses as well. Latex hoses have been shown to have a lower rolling resistance than standard butyl hoses.

So you should be a bit comfortable there and if you're messing around with your tires and stuff, why don't you go without a tube? That doesn't make it any easier, but it does give you the peace of mind that you are less likely to have a puncture, which can mean you dare to go without going out and get a spare tube and pump and that will save you weight. Now you know we cling to straws when it comes to saving your bike's micrograms, but there are a few things that were on your bike when you bought it that you don't necessarily need for everyday use . On the one hand valve caps and valve stem sleeves.

You don't really need these, although the sleeves may prevent the valve in your rim from rattling. You may have noticed that your rear wheel has a plastic washer between the cassette and the spokes. This is to protect the wheel from being shifted up and into the derailleur.

If your derailleur is well adjusted, you won't need it at all, although it would be a costly mistake if it weren't. Your bike probably came with reflectors on the wheels too. You don't necessarily need it, although I'm a big fan of being seen on a bike.

I try to wear bright colors, but above all I always start with my light, too. And for this I also removed the standard reflectors that would have come with the bike. We're really only saving a few grams here, but that makes the bike a little tidier, that a little slimmer, and you can't say that something feels cool, it feels fast.

So far in this article, we've tried to focus on more cost-effective ways to save a little weight, hence the tire's rotational mass, other things that spin, the rims, very expensive upgrade, disc brake discs, cassettes. You can get a much lighter cassette. It's not as much as a set of wheels, but you save up to 200 grams again, I can't believe that.

whole grain pasta

That sounds amazing to me. Pedals are a place you could lose some weight, as is your chain set. And if you want to go really fast, ceramic bearings in your hubs might also be a great upgrade option.

If I were really pedantic now and wanted to save everything last gram, I could always remove my bike computer, the ELEMNT ROAM, the Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM and its smaller brother, the ELEMNT BOLT. This only saves me a few grams, and since I like big data on my screen I'll keep this here, but there is something to be aware of. So there are just a few of our most popular ways to save a bit of extra weight on your bike without actually changing the way you ride - so have you tried one of these, and when you did, how much weight did you get from your favorite ride cut off? Write it in the comments below and let us know if there are any additional ways to save weight on your bike too.
