Bicycle tax - pragmatic solutions

Why is there a bike tax in Oregon?

Lawmakers created the bicycle excise tax in 2017, as part of a .3 billion tax package that will pay for transportation improvements around Oregon. The website StreetsblogUSA called it a 'preposterous bike tax that accomplishes no discernible transportation goal except dampening demand for new bikes.'12 дек. 2018 г.

Seeing a supercar in person is rare, but have you ever noticed that whenever you see one in the wild, it has either a Montana or Vermont license plate? Why are these cars registered in these states? Are they tax havens? Are They Good Driving States? Vermont and Montana are the only states like this? Now come to us as we figure out why supercars are registered in states the owner probably doesn't live in and how that benefits them in the first place. I love license plates. Here in the US every state has its own so it's super easy to identify from state cars.

But what you might not know is that some of those license plates you spotted weren't on the rise. In fact, most of the time when you see a Supercaror RV with Montana license plates, it's actually a wealthy person from another state. Who thinks they're better than you? You see, when you make a big purchase, like a $ 3.3 million Bugatti Chiron Sport, the sales tax can be pretty doozy.

For example, if you lived in LA, you'd have to pay about $ 315,000 in taxes and fees. What if I tell you that you can buy the same $ 3.3 million Bugattian and pay only a few thousand dollars in fees for as long as you bought it in Montana.

cycling zones

Would that be something for you? Of course it is. You could use the remaining $ 314,000 to buy more tissue toilet paper or whatever rich people might spend the money on. If I were rich, I would buy flannel sheets.

The reason for this is that Montana has no sales tax. Oregon, Alaska, Delaware, and New Hampshire are also tax-free, but Montana is the best because they're the only state that doesn't require a physical inspection of the car. Montana doesn't require emissions testing either, so you can roll coal without fear of government retaliation.

And all of this means you can literally buy a car in Beverly Hills and bill it 1,274 miles away without the car tire outside the 90210. That doesn't sound very legal, does it? But you'd be surprised. Even though it's illegal? There is nothing to forge owner's address.

It is illegal to open a mailbox company in Montana, buy a car or RV through that mailbox company, and operate it in another state. In fact, there are a number of companies in Montana that can help you do just that. Just create a fantastic fake name like Nolan Syke's Cyclery, and come up with a kick-ass slogan like 'We love Syke's Cikes' and the service takes care of the rest like the mailing address and whatever.

But just a warning, as long as this is Technically, insurance companies aren't fans of this method. A traditional auto insurer can refuse to pay claims if it can prove that a car is in a different area than the auto policy listed Cars in different states in order to save on premium. For example, if you live in New York you will pay an average of $ 1,789, but if you tag your car in Vermont or New Hampshire, you will only pay about $ 1,100 for insurance.

Smart. Another reason some people have their cars in other states have emission standards. Suppose you want to buy your Uncle Ronnie's used C7ZR1.

Now Uncle Ronnie's the type of guy who likes restaurants, the peanut shells on the floor and the exhausts that sound awesome made him want to put a few things out of his exhaust that could cause the car to fail a California emissions test . What to do? Easy. Tag that cookie in Vegas, which has lower emissions standards, then drive it to California.

Disclaimer, I'm not a lawyer so maybe don't. I dont know. And just so you know, this isn't a California thing.

Someone in Pennsylvania can save money and drive a less polar bear friendly car if marked in Ohio If you live in New Mexico, you can go to Texas. Or if you live in Hawaii you're actually pretty screwed if you live in Hawaii, but at least the scenery is nice from state plates, but what about plates outside of the territory, hmm? While it is definitely not so common to see license plates from US territories like the US Virgin Islands, some of the coolest cars come from US territories. That's because you can import cars into territories that you can't import into the US, and here's the kicker, it's easier to import a vehicle from one US territory than another country.

Overwhelming, isn't it? Right now the most common way to get a great market car that doesn't meet US standards is to wait 25 years from crash tests, side marker lights, headlights, safety bells, blah, blah, blah. We did it, I feel like 10 articles on the same topic. You could also modify this car to have all of these things, argue that it is similar to an existing car on the US market, or apply for a 'Show and Display' exemption.

But all of these options can surprisingly be harder than they sound. What if you want to own an illegal car like a Land Rover Defender 110 in Oklahoma? You can either buy one that is over 25 years old and costs around € 125 Grandor can relatively buy one for 60 grand in the UK and then spend another 15 grand on shipping and import fees to get the biscuit unicorn in the US - Flag of Virgin Islands. Not only do you save 50,000, you also get an improved vehicle.

Sounds like a very specific example, I'm not showing! Finger on anyone. That's only an example. Nobody did that.

At this point I just want to remind everyone that here at Donut we do not condone illegal registration or insurance of vehicles. In fact, it should be noted that attempting to bypass taxes, insurance premiums, and emissions testing can really haunt you. Imagine going through the hassle of buying the Defender 110 and getting caught.

Not only would you face legal issues, there is a good chance Johnny Lawis will crush this Land Rover with end rust like a 94 Sunfire. And that would be heartbreaking. At the end of the day, coating a car with license plates outside the state, or in extreme cases outside the territory, may not be worth the risk or headache, but depending on the owner, car, and place of residence, some delicious juices may be worth it - Oh, did you miss the delivery deadline for the holiday? Oh no problem.

Introducing the digital donut gift cards with numbers in the computer, give him your love and hope you rock your donut by January. I'll tell you right away, if people paid their $ 3.3 million Bugatti for their sales tax, our streets in LA might not be like this (peep).

How about? The only car I'd do for this area shield thing is the Alpine 110, the new one. It's like a French rear-engined car. Super sick.

You might actually have to do that next time.

Is buying a bicycle tax deductible?

There are five things I think you should know about the upcoming 30% federal electric bike tax credit. Yeah, that's perfect timing for the US Air Force, the US Air Force. We don't have all the information yet.

Everything we have is based on this press release here, it's only two pages. I can read you the first paragraph. It reads: 'Today, Congressman Jimmy Panetta and Chair of the Black Caucus of Congress Earl Blumenauer launched the Incentive Kickstart for Electric Bikes for the Environment.

That stands for e-bike. Smart. The law encourages the use of electric bicycles or e-bikes through a consumer tax credit based on the distance, speed and ease with which they can travel.

That was easy! E-bikes will help replace car journeys and commuting and reduce CO2 emissions. The biggest boost we are likely to create is of course CO2 emissions. And then this huge paragraph here is basically a link to a study on it.

The rest of the press release are essentially quotes from cycling organizations across the country supporting the 30% tax credit. This press release doesn't have a lot of flesh or substance, but I'll share our knowledge and speculate a little on whether or not I think this will actually happen. Number one.

And I think the most important thing is to understand it. What is a federal tax credit? If you've never used one before it can be a little confusing. Does that mean you actually get a 30% discount on the price of the bike when you buy it? No.

bike couriers nyc

So that's what you need to be aware of. How do you actually apply or take advantage of this? Now, when it goes into effect, I've actually bought and leased some electric vehicles and they have federal tax credits. So I'm familiar with how the process works for this one.

I assume this will be very similar. Let's say you have a bike that costs $ 1,500. You will receive 30% as a tax credit.

This means that you have to pay the full retail price of the bike. When you buy it. However, when filing your taxes, basically you can claim that you will likely need to fill out a new form.

It says here that I bought an electric bike. The value was as follows, we will receive a deduction or credit when you file your taxes. In other words, if you get a tax refund for the year, you get a higher refund because of the electric bike.

If you have to pay tax, a small part of that bill will be deducted from you. So you don't get a direct tax credit when you buy a bike, but you get the benefit when you file your taxes. So I'm curious to see whether this will increase bicycle sales in December.

If we have people trying to cut their taxes and considering an e-bike and that could push them over the edge just before the end of the year. Number two: there is a limit to the maximum amount of money you can get back. And that's $ 1,500, which is quite a lot.

So it's 30% or $ 1,500. Of course, I had to do a little math and find out what the best price-performance ratio for an electric bike is. If you invest in a 24-piece set now, I'll throw in a small gift.

So what's the gift? Provided this tax credit is available. So if you buy a $ 5,000 bike, the bill works out to get you the full $ 1,500 credit. You would essentially cut the cost of this bike down to $ 3,500 after filing your taxes.

That's a bargain in my opinion if that works out. So best bang for your buck is a $ 5,000 e-bike. And take full advantage of the tax credit.

And third, there is an upper limit. When you're spending that much money, you basically don't need a tax credit either. And that's the cap of $ 8,000.

So if you buy a stealth bomber that's $ 10,000 it won't count because it's too much money. Since I mentioned the stealth bike and that would be over the limit, it was mentioned that it would apply to bikes with a power of 750 watts or less. 750 watts.

Number four. There is a somewhat vague phrase that says this applies to lower incomes. It doesn't say what that is or what it means.

So there may be some kind of income cap where you can't take advantage of this. The only downside that I personally see is that 90% to 95% of my clients are either retired or semi-retired. Will they be able to benefit from it? Above all: is there an income limit? I do not know, but we will have to wait and see what is actually on the bill because we do not have this text yet.

Finally, number five, what is this actually going to do to the electric bike market? There is already a shortage. We're already having trouble getting parts and parts. So if there is a tax incentive to buy, will more people buy electric bikes? And I say, yes, that makes perfect sense.

There are a number of organizations that were already supporting this bill before the press release came out. So obviously there was a lot of discussion behind the scenes. I got in touch with you by phone.

I tried calling some of the organizations on the phone number list. Unfortunately, none of them took off so I couldn't find out any further details. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that just a few weeks ago, Rad Power raised $ 150 million in investment funds.

It just seems a little strange to me that a ton of money went into a big e-bike company. literally days before a proposed federal tax credit is released. Maybe this wasn't the whole reason for this, but it was probably a treat, do I think that's going to happen? Yes.

Do I have any idea when it will happen? No way. If you want to buy an e-bike I would say the same thing. Do not wait.

how to lock your bike

I wouldn't wait as the demand is high. Inventory is low and it will remain a challenge for the next year or so. And that will only make it harder.

I've seen some comments from people saying, why are we introducing a 30% tax reduction on electric bikes when they are mainly from China? That makes no sense. It's like subsidizing Chinese manufacturing. There are many different opinions as to whether this is good or bad overall.

I can only say that we are slowly working on and developing more US products. USA! USA All the Way! This has been requested via email many times and is not yet available on my channel. But many of you can probably imagine what this is going to be for.

We're building up production here. We do this here in the house at Bolton Ebikes. And as soon as we build up a supply, these will be put up for sale.

More on that soon, we finally have the handlebar jack in stock. I reviewed this product a while ago. There is a schedule for a new updated version that will have a separate article made to show you any updates.

However, this is another product that is made in the USA. And finally, I mentioned one of the WartHog bikes because they are on the water and are almost here in the US. If you are still looking for an electric bike, be sure to check out my other article, 10 Things You Should Know Before Buying an E-Bike, as all of this information continues to apply.

Refueling properly is one of the easiest things you can do, but it has a massive impact on your performance. And the longer your journey, the more important refueling becomes. Mile ride, or the big, huge sport you've been preparing for a long time, or just a couple of long summer drives.

We'll show you what to eat and when to eat it. But before we do, make sure to subscribe to GCN if you haven't already, and also click the bell icons for notifications and support the channel. (Dramatic Music) - The first thing you should know about fueling up for a long ride is that your refueling doesn't start when you get it on your bike, you have to think about your diet before the ride and that starts with yours Eve meal the night before.

You want to eat a solid, high-carb meal - maybe something with pasta, rice, or even quinoa. But don't make the classic mistake of overeating. While topping up carbs is a good thing, you'll want to replenish those carbohydrates served, but eating twice what you would normally eat will just leave you feeling bloated and sluggish the next day.

Try to eat a little more carbohydrates than you normally would; you really want a hearty, low-fat, low GI breakfast. So something like porridge, a Bircher muesli or overnight oats would be ideal as they are carbohydrates with low GI, which means that the energy is released slowly. So you will feel the benefits longer.

And you want to avoid fatty foods as they delay the absorption of much-needed carbohydrates into your system. Deep-frying may not be the best option before a big trip. (slow techno beat) - Simple things first.

If you are going on a long drive, bring two bottles. Now 750ml bottles are really useful when you can fit them into your frame. This is actually a 500, but the 750 won't fit every frame, especially y if you have a smaller bike.

But ultimately, the drinking strategy you choose will depend on the conditions you are driving in - When it is really hot, focus on having electrolytes in your drinks to replace the essential minerals that you are losing by sweating And if possible, plan at least one point on your trip where you can refill your bottles. Another pro tip is to take an electrolyte tablet and a bag of drink mix in your pocket or saddlebag when you have refilled your bottles in the summer I really like water and electrolytes in my bottles to make sure I replenish the minerals lost in sweat. But in winter I like to fill the bottles with carbohydrate mix and use some kind of special product, a bag of carbohydrate mix, you can actually get the maximum amount of carbohydrates your body can absorb in an hour.

The reason for this is that they have the right blend of sugars that will allow you to get the maximum amount of carbohydrates per hour, which can be massive to help you fuel up. (Techno music) - Take real food with you whenever you can on long bike rides. So these can be flapjacks, rice cakes, bananas, or maybe even small sandwiches. If you're getting your fueling strategy right, and you're feeling tired, hungry and maybe blowing, then one of the best things to eat is an energy gel.

Because energy gels only contain what you need: fuel, sugar. And that's really easy for the body to absorb. With this in mind, it's always good to take a few energy gels with you on long journeys.

But you won't want to eat energy gels all the time. They have a lot of them and they can! starting to be pretty sickly. But in terms of trying to make up for the dreaded bonk, speak to a seasoned cyclist who will tell you there is nothing like it. (Techno music) - It's a bit of a cliché, but when you start with that? If you're hungry on a long drive, it's really too late.

It's not the end of the world on short trips, but if you run out of fuel you're probably not too far from home. But take it from me, you really, really, really, really don't want to be halfway through the Running out of fuel on an epic ride. It's no fun.

A good guideline if you're on a long, intense ride is to eat carbs every 20 minutes or something. That could be half an energy bar, a gel or a rice cake or something like that. And what I tend to do is pretty geeky, I'll do and plan how much food I need and then pack my bags accordingly.

peloton bike review

But then always add an extra bar or a couple of extra gels in case I need it. For example, if the trip is a little more intense than your planning, or you start to have the feeling that you are feeling bad, this is your insurance policy, these are your reserves, your emergency rations. Hope you found this look at food useful on long journeys.

And if yes? , then please give the article a big thumbs up. Now you have no excuse if you accept your next six-hour epic. And if you want to stay hydrated in style, why should you? Don't go to the GCN shop and get GCN Camelback water bottles.
